Oh, so I'm right and there is no online documentation for it?  That's a 
disappointing thing to be right about :)

I couldn't even find an FAQ telling me to look at that file on my own system, 
if that's where to find the definitive guide to using it, hence I had to 
resort to asking on the list

However, that directory is on my machine, now I know to look for it, and the 
STARTUP file seems to contain the guidance I need.
